WHAT:  The Other Portrait Show by Paton Miller

WHERE: 4 N. Main Gallery AT 4 N. Main Street, Southampton

The inspiration behind Paton Miller’s ‘The Other Portrait Show’ is a reference to the Salon De Refuses exhibitions that used to take place in Paris when the French Salon opened with their annual shows. The refused artist who at that time were the impressionist and the post impressionist would mount their own exhibitions to make the comment that the ‘powers to be’ missed a strong current of contemporary art. Although this Salon de Refuses is more tongue in cheek then it’s historical reference the exhibiting artist enjoy the opportunity to display their work, along side the Parrish Art Museum’s current show, in the spirit of portraiture.
