Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway weekend, want to rent the perfect summer suite for the season, or get cozy by the fire in the fall….The Baker House might be the closest thing to perfection on the East End…

Nestled in the village of East Hampton, The Baker House 1650 is a masterpiece showcasing 17th Century Cotsworld-inspired architecture mixed with the homey aura of a superb English manor. Don’t be fooled by the antique setting, the hotel offers every modern accommodation, convenience, and amenity you could need.

The Baker House 1650 was chosen by Conde Nast, as the “Most Excellent Inn of the Americas” for three years, and was named “Inn of the Month” by Travel and Leisure Magazine. Town and Country magazine says the cottage “offers the kind of plush accommodations that you’d expect to find in an area famous for its residential real estate.” Well, that’s spot on!

The Baker Carriage House [above] is quaintly tucked behind the main house, and was part of the original Baker House property dating back to 1883, housing the family’s horses and carriages. By the mid 20th century, after many years of disuse, it had fallen into a sad state of disrepair. In 1957, The Carriage House was purchased by Jeremiah Goodman, the renowned interior design illustrator and artist. Mr. Goodman’s brilliant works have included commissions from Ronald and Nancy Reagan, the Duchess of Windsor, Richard Rodgers, and countless members of post-war cognoscenti, as well as every prominent design publication.

Jeremiah soon applied his inimitable flair, his flawless style and smart design to the painstaking renovation of The Carriage House. Soon, his elegant and eclectic new home provided a lush and inviting playground for his vast and varied circle of celebrated friends..

The intimate spa boasts a swimming pool, sauna, steam shower, and jacuzzi. Although modern in every aspect, it seems to have always been there. The flooring was created with multi-hued Chinese limestone. To create the showers, brick arches supporting the sout chimney were enclosed in glass. So romantic!

Following a subsequent series of owners, in the winter of 2008 Antonella and Bob purchased The Carriage House— bringing it back home. They soon embarked upon a meticulous renovation, with an absolute respect for the home’s architectural origins, to create the exceptional accommodations that exist today. The original barn and hay doors, wrought iron staircase, and slate & wooden floors were all retained. The décor was created to complement the home’s own inherent clean, comfortable aesthetic and to honor its casual charm.
