See My DIY Holiday Decor Tips: Get Busy with Beautiful Bulbs!

SHARE

This giant white Amaryllis bulb I planted with beach rocks will boast big white blooms in my guest bedroom by Christmas!

Here’s a chic DIY project I just had fun working on for my Hamptons holiday decor….

I love the scent of Paper Whites [Narcissus], which are bulbs that bloom during the holiday season. You can buy planters of blooming Narcissus, or you can purchase the bulbs and create your own arrangement that will be in full bloom by Christmas if you make them now. I also love big chunky blooms of Amaryllis [see photo above] which sit upon tall green stalks. For inspiration, I popped by Marders Garden Center in Bridgehampton to pick out my bulbs and see what cool ideas their green thumbs had come up with this year.

I love Marders idea of housing the bulbs in glass vessels with stones instead of soil.

First, pick out the bulbs you like according to the photos on the box front. Marders has a fantastic selection.

Pop over to one of our beautiful beaches to collect white rocks, shells, and a few pine cones if you are lucky! I scored at Circle Beach in Sag Harbor (above).

This is a "cascading" arrangement. The bulbs are planted on their side so the green stalks grow out and up.

Think outside the box when choosing planters. Marders plants bulbs in white pine logs (two above) and I chose this blue and white porcelain serving bowl that was sitting in our china cabinet for my Narcissus, accented with a few seashells sprinkled between bulbs.

You don't need soil if you are using rocks to hold your bulbs. Just fill the vessel with water to the root point.

Gently change the water out twice a week.

I used three paper white bulbs for my master bath arrangement, plus a starfish and a few shells to the beach rocks

Blooming Narcissus will fill your room with their beautiful sweet fragrance.
