Get your dapper dog ready in his best designer outfit for the second annual Black Tie for Paws Event!

Doggie U K9 Academy is proud to present the 2nd Annual ‘Black Tie for Paws’ taking place on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 6pm until midnight. After the success of last year’s inaugural event the co-owners of Doggie U, Rolissa Nash and Ginny Anziani decided to make this furrrbulous benefit an annual event.  Complete with a red carpet and ThePuparazzi taking pictures, guests are requested to come in cocktail attire, but most importantly~ their dogs accompanying them should be dressed to the K-9’s! Live music provided by McMillian Sports & Entertainment, who were huge hit last year having the attendees dance the night away!

Guests will enjoy scrumptious food and drinks; amazing raffles; pet and human talent acts performing for the crowd; dog treats, gift bags and the dressed up pups need somewhere to strut their stuff, a runway fashion show of course!

This year’s event will again be a dual fund raiser and the beneficiaries will include Shelter Link and Almost Home Animal Rescue, based right here on Long Island who work daily with our local animal shelters, go into communities who need help with their pets and much more.  These two organizations dedicate countless hours of their own lives to make it better for the dogs and cats in the Town of Islip Animal Shelter and in the communities in the Town of Babylon.  Volunteers provide dogs and cats socialization, play time, and aid in adoption.  Almost Home works closely in communities to help educate dog owners about the proper care for their pets and provides support including, food, dog houses, spay and neuter and will even foster and adopt out dogs if the owners decide they can no longer care for their pet.

Doggie U is the largest training facility on Long Island, boasting 13,000-square feet, is the home to many different dog obedience, rally and agility shows, pet fairs, and more. This event will help the effort to bring attention to the wonderful dedicated people of Shelter Link and Almost Home, and will also help people recognize and highlight how important it is to adopt a dog or cat from a local shelter, work with people and pets in your own community.

About Almost Home:
Almost Home is a 501c3, not for profit animal rescue organization that works to build a more humane community one family and one pet at a time. It consists of two major programs – the adoption program rescues animals from local shelters, high kill out of state shelters and animals in need through the Training Wheels program. Almost Home takes in animals with medical issues, such as heartworm or mange, provide them with veterinary care, and spay/neuter all animals prior to adoption. All of our animals are kept in foster homes.

Almost Home’s other main program is a community outreach program, Training Wheels. This is an incredible program that brings the shelter into the community, where it is so badly needed. We mostly service the Wyandanch area but will provide our spay/neuter services throughout Suffolk. We deliver food on a monthly basis to about 140 homes. Most of our families have dogs that reside outside, chained to doghouses. Unfortunately there are no anti-tethering laws and the animal law enforcement is very weak. We provide proper tie outs, as many of these dogs are chained with heavy tow chains, provide proper doghouses, straw for bedding, and most importantly FREE spay/neuter with transportation. Many of these families have no cars, no phones and lack of resources. We also provide FREE veterinary care for these families when needed. Education is a major part of this program. We educate to get the dogs off the chains and stop breeding of dogs and cats.
