NEW KIDHAMPTON PARTY DIARY: Sag Harbor Birthday Girl Vivienne Schwartz
What do you get when you combine lollipops, cupcakes, face painting, balloons, berries, and polka dots? The perfect birthday party for Sag Harbor cutie Vivienne Schwartz, who recently turned three. Viv’s supermom Kimberly shares all the sweet details of the day in this NEW KDHamptons Party Diary:
KDHamptons: How did you come up with this fun strawberry theme?
Kimberly Schwartz [pictured below, with baby Delphine]: My daughter and I love strawberries. My friend turned me on to some of the ideas from a blog — Rip + Tan. It was really an adult party too, married with Vivienne’s birthday — Our “kick off the season” party in the Hamptons! My husband Bernard and I put it together in our backyard, which is perfect for entertaining. There were 12 kids, 2 babies and 25 adults.
KDHamptons: Tell us about the menu served at the party?
Kimberly: I actually prepared all the food myself. My mom baked the cupcakes from scratch. I piped the icing :) We grilled sausages and hot dogs from Foragers in DUMBO. I made a pesto pasta salad with fresh tomatoes and toasted pine nuts. I also made almond butter and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut into quarters for the kiddies. The kids had lemonade and chopped strawberries while adults enjoyed strawberry margaritas served in mason jars. I got tons of brilliant delights from different bakers on etsy.com, including: Strawberry Marshmallow Lollipops, Strawberry Sugar Cookies, and Strawberry Shaped Chocolate Lollipops. We also served a big, bright green herb salad.
KDHamptons: Where did you find such adorable decor items?
Kimberly: I rented red pillows and linen table cloths and laid them on the lawn. And I hung honeycomb decorations from the trees.
KDHamptons: How did you keep the kids entertained? What was Viv’s favorite part of the party?
Kimberly: I got the most amazing face painter. All the kids loved it. She was extraordinary. Other than that, the kids just ran around and played. Viv’s favorite part was probably enjoying that cupcake. Also, I got 36″ polka dot balloons that the kids kicked and rolled around the backyard all day.
KDHamptons: Where did you find your fabulous party dresses?
Kimberly: My dress was 1950’s vintage. Viv’s dress was made by a woman I found on etsy. com
