One of the highlights of summer in the Hamptons is heading to Sagg Main Beach in Sagaponack on Monday nights to hear the Escola de Samba Boom drumming group led by Richard Siegler of Shelter Island [click above photo to play video]. The group has been playing at sunset for years and the crowds gorw bigger every summer. Every week, around 30 drummers show up to play, teach, and enjoy the “organic experience.” As the sun sets, the drumming transitions to an African drumming circle. Beachgoers sway to the music and some enter the drum circle to dance.

As the Monday night beach crowd has grown over the years, a parking problem has emerged as well. A Southampton Town beach permit is needed to park in the lot, and be sure to leave by 9 p.m. or your car will be ticketed. Officers also warn about obtaining beach-driving and fire-burning permits to avoid ticketing.

Load up your car with friends, pack a picnic, some Wolffer Summer in a Bottle rosé, and beach blanket. The Sagg Main drumming parties are a great way to toast summer. The drummers inspire people of all ages to dance, hula hoop or simply sit back and enjoy the sunset and great music. People of all ages are inspired to dance, hula hoop and enjoy the sunset.
