NEW KDHamptons Featured Artist: Terry Elkins Hosts Exclusive Showing At His Hamptons Home
“Most collectors know me for my landscape painting, but before I started coming out here and eventually moving here 28 years ago, my early work was abstract,” shares highly collectible Hamptons artist, Terry Elkins [below]. “The East End cast its own kind of spell on my work. It’s not just the landscape that inspires me to paint, but how I interact with my environment that shapes my thought process.” On November 14 from 5-7 pm, Elkins is teaming up with Mecox Gardens to host a special event that will give collectors and the local community an exclusive look at his home, and more than 50 paintings—many of which have yet to be seen in public due to their sheer size. The hand-curated show will also include smaller pieces that will be available for purchase.
Terry shares, “I still like to paint “plein air” but that work tends to be recognizable. It falls into the local tradition and acclaimed history of artists, landscape painters here, like Childe Hassam. I’m honored to be hanging next to his work right now at Guild Hall in the exhibition ‘A Sence of Place’. But I enjoy going back to my roots, trying things where I can’t quite predict the outcome. That has allowed me to develop a rapport with the subject matter I keep returning to over and over: landscapes, seascapes, maritime subject matter, drawings on nautical charts, driftwood constructions of dories and catboats are just a few of the things about the East End that inspires me.” For more info go HERE and to RSVP for the show, please email Mecox Gardens at: kgale@mecoxgardens.com, and for directions to the studio please call (631) 537-7314 .
