Hamptons Hot Shop: Hidden Gem In Southampton

SHARE

Hidden Gem is one of KDHamptons favorite local boutiques for haute home designs.  Owned by sisters Temidra and Tanya Willock (below), Hidden Gem is their first homeware and lifestyle boutique in Southampton. The pair highlights under-represented creators and artists from their community and beyond as well as showcases their own beautiful work. The store has quickly become the stage for their colorful and eclectic curation – with items ranging from hand painted decorative wooden surf boards, photography, textiles, woven goods, and jewelry, to tie-dye, silk-screen apparel and home goods. It’s a favorite amongst customers passionate about discovering items and crafts rich in heritage, out East and beyond. This wonderful boutique will inspire you to re-invent and warm-up your homes, inside and out!

Whether you are looking for ways to re-invent your home for the summer, curate the perfect Antigua-inspired table for your Spring soiree, or inject the right amount of color into your living space, this beautiful boutique offers the perfect items and guidance. With inspiration drawn from the shores of Antigua to the dunes of Montauk, this jewel box of a shop has the most unique offerings you won’t find anywhere else.

KDHamptons asked Temidra and Tanya to share the hottest design trends they are seeing right now in the Hamptons:

  1. Color and print mixing: “People are coming off of the wave of the minimalist trend and they are doing the complete opposite. We love seeing the mix of prints and lively colors being added to homes, especially in the Hamptons which is known for its classic costal aesthetic.”
2. Recreating indoor spaces outdoors: “With the pandemic came more creative ways to entertain. Though the indoor outdoor trend has been going on for some time, we’ve definitely seen a focus on designing and decorating the outdoor space as an extension of the indoors.”

3. Wicker and Rattan details: “We’ve been seeing it everywhere! From glass holders to chandeliers to furniture. People want to purchase more natural, eco friendly and sustainable materials. We’ve always loved the beautiful braiding and weaving of natural materials and we are so happy to see it trending.”

4. Meaningful decor: “All in all we have seen a general shift in decorating not just so the space looks good but so it’s feels good too! People have been purchasing pieces that genuinely brings them joy and as artists and designers ourself what more could we ask for.”

Inspired by memories of their Antiguan grandmother selling her crafts in their backyard in the East End, the Willock sisters want to share their passion with a wider audience. Rooted in colors, textures, and patterns, and woven into the fabric of the store, the pair brings people into their world and their individual narratives and experiences. With respective artistic backgrounds, Temidra and Tanya have quite organically become curators with a unique point of view and a true desire to bring forth creators and artisans from all over the world.

If you are out of town and still want to browse Hidden Gem’s inventory, don’t worry! In order to expand their reach beyond the East End, the sisters have made part of their in-store selection available on www.hiddengemny.com. Check it out!
