Just in time for fall, East “Enders” can get the tenth and final scent of Killian Hennessy’s L’Oeuvre Noire Collection named Sweet Redemption-The End.” The End is a gorgeous concoction of balsamic notes, incense and myrrh intertwined with orange blossom for an ever-so light yet lasting scent.
The Big Box Set is also a new offering for Fall: “During the last five years, we could have forgotten that each creation were playing a role in one single project. I wanted to gather this whole olfactory piece in one unique case in order to give everyone the opportunity to wear these perfumes as an olfactory wardrobe,” explains Kilian.
The “L’Œuvre Noire” collection has been gesture d into an elegant compact of solid perfume: “Before they become “ burning waters“ by the addition of alcohol in the 13th century, perfumes appeared as a solid ointments, the famous solid perfumes,” shares Kilian.
The End is finally here, but it’s a good thing!! KDH discovered the irresistible fragrances of Kilian Hennessy on a beauty excursion last year at Bergdorf Goodman. I love to choose a new scent each season to experiment with and learn about exciting new players in the perfume world. Enter Killian Hennessy, heir to a long line of cognac-makers that are pioneers in luxury, Kilian is the grandson of the founder of The LVMH Group, and has decided to take up the torch of family tradition. Let me share his intriguing story with you:
Kilian’s childhood haunts include the family cellars in Cognac! Before graduating from CELSA (School of Higher Studies in the Information and Communication Sciences at the Sorbonne) he wrote a thesis on the semantics of odors, in search of “a language common to gods and mortals.” On his search of the “angels’ share”, he encountered the world of perfumery. Kilian explains that the “angels’ share” is what the House of Hennessy calls the percentage that – inexplicably – evaporates from cognac cellars, like an offering to the gods. His fragrances are redolent of the sugar in alcohol and the wood of cognac barrels.
After graduating from a university program in communication and language sciences, he trained with the greatest noses in perfumery and worked for the most prestigious perfume houses such as Christian Dior, Paco Rabanne, Alexander McQueen and Giorgio Armani.
Today, Kilian celebrates his own brand with a collection, which has been described as “a reflection of his personality and achieves a perfect alliance between elegance and absolute, uncompromising luxury.” Smells good, no? Check out Kilian’s big news for the season:

The set is contained in an ivory box outfitted with a black tassel, which is the fetish symbol of the brand. Inside are the 10 travel size perfumes from the “L’Oeuvre Noire” collection: Prelude to Love, Love, Beyond love, Love and Tears, A Taste of Heaven, Straight to Heaven, Back to Black, Liaisons Dangereuses, Cruel Intentions and Sweet Redemption. KDH usually wears Prelude To Love on a sunny day, and Back to Black in the evenings. A lot of the Kilian fragrances are considered unisex. I bought my husband the Straight to Heaven scent which comes in a great travel size for his dopp kit…sometimes I like to wear it too!
The last bit of scentual news at Kilian is that the “L’Oeuvre Noire” collection has been gesture d into an elegant compact of solid perfume: “Before they become “ burning waters“ by the addition of alcohol in the 13th century, perfumes appeared as a solid ointments, the famous solid perfumes,” shares Kilian. ”We now offer our 10 fragrances in the shape of solid perfumes…which can be applied on the skin with the fingertips.”
