Exclusive: A Haute Hamptons Sea-To-Table Private Lunch Affair!
Hey KDHamptons readers, what did you eat over the holiday weekend? Well, if you were lucky enough to catch an invite to Rita Schrager’s Sea-to-Table lunch affair at her gorgeous Southampton home, Casa Cuba, you were in for a very special day…
Here’s the Hamptons crew who came together for sun, fun, swim, and some incredible Surf & Turf: Rita Schrager, Juris Kupris, Rie Rasmussen, Arri Taylor, Mary & Mayfield Slattery, Hernan Arriaga, Thomas Lipzer and KDH!
Montauk’s Juris Kupris [top right] is wellness expert, president of The Fit Company, surfer, fisherman and all around East End lover of the outdoors. Juris and his cousin, Arri Taylor [top left], who has a photography and talent management company [Arri Taylor Model Management] caught our meal early morning off the shore of Montauk’s Ditch Plains, popped over to the local farmer’s market for fresh produce & ingredients for their family recipe of paella, and headed to Southampton to prepare our feast….The “SURF” portion of the feast is underway…
Arri tells KDH, “The fish were caught off stand up paddle boards right in Ditch Plains, the waves were dead that day [so no surfing!] and we saw a flock of birds diving 1/2 mile from shore indicating a school of fish!”
Meanwhile, back at Casa Cuba, Argentinian Hernan Arriaga [who also designed the home] has the grill fired up for the “TURF” portion of the lunch, whipping up a Carne Asada [Spanish for roasted meat], which is a thin cut marinated skirt steak. Hernan prepared typical garnishes for Carne Asada including guacamole and grilled vegetables.
Arri shares, “People don’t think enough about where their food comes from, what it took to catch it, or the slaughter house procedures. Participating in the whole process gives it a level of intimacy that promotes much more respect for what you eat and finally about not wasting.”
“My cousin Arri and I grew up spear fishing in Anguilla, and were taught how to clean our catch…Fresh ingredients are a must, but nothing feels as gratifying as being responsible for the whole meal start to finish!” [Hey, did we miss these two swimming with Leo in The Beach?]
Juris shares, “High protein is a must! It cuts down on carb cravings and maintains lean muscle… I look for substitutes whenever I can… Hummus is great on sandwiches instead of using mayo.. I also try and stay away from gluten as much as possible….Wraps are always a better option or gluten free bread!”
Danish beauty Rie Rasmussen, wrote and directed two short films, one of which, Thinning the Herd, was part of the official selection of more than 20 film festivals around the world, including the Cannes Film Festival. She also stars in Luc Besson’s Angel-A, and wrote, directed and produced the feature film Human Zoo.
After lunch Casa Cuba turns into playground of activities when Rita’s latin music sets the scene for sunset…..anything goes, including [below]: porch ballet, pool “people” throwing, snuggling, secret sharing and copious consumption of pie & ice cream…
Juris told us about his cool new venture as we lounged by the pool, “My new website, www.thefitcompany.com, is a wellness professional search agent.. Basically there is NO one place you can go on the Internet to search and book a wellness professional. Through the site, readers can search by training style, price, as well as ‘most liked’! You also can see photos and reviews people have posted about their session.”
