FRESHDIRECT CELEBRATES "LOCAL MONTH" ACROSS NEW YORK AREA
If you follow KDHamptons then you know that I love to support local farms, purveyors, and specialty food creators but I sure don’t love battling the Hamptons traffic to go shopping at all my favorite destinations! That’s when I rely on FreshDirect to be my online grocer that delivers straight to my front door. FreshDirect also believes that there is no better way to connect with the community than to support local businesses. That’s why they announced August as their “Local Month,” dedicated to highlighting and supporting several local New York-area brands.
From emerging talents to established favorites, they’re putting the spotlight on local farmers, growers, distillers, and food manufacturers. See below for some of my favorite FreshDirect foodie finds I’ve been coveting this summer!
Indulge in the creamiest ice cream that will tantalize your taste buds. Savor the aroma of fresh bread straight from local bakeries. And get ready to be blown away by the mouth-watering peak produce, grown with genuine local love. FreshDirect is committed to fostering strong relationships with their local partners. By choosing FreshDirect, you not only get access to the freshest and most delectable products but also actively contribute to supporting the backbone of our community.
Chloe’s: Co-founded by Chloe, a mom of three and New Yorker, Chloe’s is one of the fastest-growing frozen novelty brands in the United States. This summer, Chloe’s expanded its line of plant-based frozen treats by launching Mini Cookie Sandwiches that are dairy-free, gluten-free, only 80 calories and exclusive to FreshDirect. All Chloe’s frozen treats are dairy-free, plant-based, vegan, Non-GMO Project Verified, gluten-free, and Kosher.
The Omakase Berry: (meaning ‘I leave it up to you’ in Japanese), has an exquisite aroma, incredibly sweet flavor and a creamy texture. The Omakase Berry is prized by the best chefs in NYC, and is unlike any other strawberry you’ve ever had. Oishii is the world’s largest indoor vertical strawberry farm in Jersey City, NJ. All Oishii berries are pesticide-free, always-in-season and non-GMO.
Bread Alone Organic Bread: When you receive your loaf, you are now able to compost your BPI Certified Commercially Compostable bread bag through any commercial composting facility. In NYC, the brown and orange compost containers available at many residences can receive your compostable bread bag, as well as NYC Smart Compost Bins. You can feel good knowing that your bread bag is not only skipping the landfill, but will be turned into earth-sustaining compost, which will enrich the soil where it is applied. Check out some of FreshDirect’s highlighted products including Organic Peasant Bread and Cinnamon Twist.
Adirondack Creamery: FreshDirect is one of the few lucky retailers that carries the Syrian Date & Walnut flavor, which Adirondack Creamery launched as a way of fundraising for refugee aid. The extremely high-quality ice cream is made with New York state milk and has very high butter fat content, making it extra rich and creamy. A vendor of FreshDirect for the past 7 years, Adirondack Creamery feels strongly about how their small business supports other small businesses; case in point, they source all the milk for their ice cream from a women-owned dairy farm across the street. Check out some of FreshDirect’s highlighted products including Black Raspberry, Syrian Date & Walnut and Kulfi Pistachio Cardamom.
Altobelli Family Farm Local Bicolor Corn: Fresh from Altobelli Family Farm in Kinderhook, NY, this bicolor corn will be some of the tastiest you’ll ever eat. Crunchy and sweet, the corn is delicious boiled or grilled. Add butter or salt if you must, but we like it plain. The two-color kernels make lovely salads, succotash, muffins, and chowders.
I love to style fresh fruits and vegetables on my sweet vintage porcelain cake stands from Highlands Teacup Co. as decor!
Hepworth Farms: Hepworth Farms is a 7th generation family farm in Milton, NY on the Hudson River. Run by farmers Amy Hepworth, her twin sister Gail, and Gerry Greco, this family farm has committed to “dechemicalization” – transitioning from standard farming practices to a whole systems approach. Today, they have over 400 acres of NOFA-certified production land yielding over 400 varieties of organic vegetables, specializing in tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, zucchini, cucumbers, and many varieties of greens. Check out some of FreshDirect’s highlighted products including Hepworth Farm’s Local Organic Vegetable Farm Sharewhich features a diverse, rotating selection of about six to eight gorgeous, seasonal vegetables and is the quickest way for you to get fresh, seasonal vegetables.
Ithaca Hummus: Since Ithaca Hummus debuted their original lemon garlic hummus at the Ithaca Farmers Market back in 2013, their mission has been to introduce America to its new favorite brand of hummus. Unlike most brands who blend their hummus while the chickpeas are still hot, Ithaca cools the chickpeas and blends the hummus cold to keep the ingredients fresh. Check out some of FreshDirect’s highlighted products including Lemon Garlic, Lemon Dill and Kalamata Olive flavors of Ithaca Hummus.
