Girls Incorporated® of Long Island is an affiliate of the nationally recognized Girls Incorporated® (Girls Inc.), a non-profit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. For over 50 years, Girls Inc. has provided vital educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, under-served areas. Girls Inc. provides programs to schools and youth organizations to help girls confront subtle social messages about their value and potential, and prepare them to lead successful, independent, and fulfilling lives.
During 2011, Girls Incorporated® of Long Island provided over 250 girls with two of Girls Inc.’s most popular programs: Economic Literacy®, a program designed to teach girls to manage money, invest, and begin to develop an appreciation for global economics; as well as Friendly PEERsuasion®, a curriculum designed to assist girls in the development of skills to resist pressure to use harmful substances such as alcohol, tobacco, household chemicals, and other drugs.
“Our goal for 2012 is to expand our programs and services throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties to inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold! By supporting our efforts you can help us to achieve our results. When you change a girl’s life you change a family; when you change a family you change a community; and when you change a community you change a society,” shares a representative of the organization.
