Julie Fowler
Occupation: Home Design Guru, CEO Julie Fowler Interiors & Green Design Expert
Current Residence: Easthampton
KDHamptons: How would you describe the Hamptons design trend right now ?
Julie Fowler: The trend is personal, design inspired by their own travel, life and things they love. People collect objects they have a personal attachment to and decorate a room around them; its not just about starting with a fabric anymore.
KDH: Describe your perfect day?
JF: A six mile run on Main Beach in Easthampton, a skim latte at the Golden Pear, shopping at Sylvester & Co. Hanging home for dinner in jeans and tee shirt and grilling on my lime green Char-Broil from Target!
KDH: What is your current design project?
JF: I am staging an installation at a gorgeous beachfront Amagansett home in June with Danielle Roberts interiors. The home belongs to a Wall Street power broker and his family so we need to mix high design with beachy comfort.
KDH: Share your summer 2011 color palette?
JF: Mixing shades of Turquoise, Teal, and Lilac. I love giving bright monogrammed cocktail napkins from www.wisteria.com , [$20/set of 6] as hostess gifts.
KDH: What is the final touch you put on all your decorating projects before the “big reveal”?
JF: I light Dyptique Cannelle Candles in the living room and bedrooms, and I pick up some rare orchids from Topiaire in Southampton~ I love the bold violet color of Vanda Orchids.
KDH: Do you have a hot home item to share with KDH readers on a budget?
JF: My clients love organic cotton bedding from West Elm Island Ikat duvet and shams and a full set is under $200! www.westelm.com .
KDH: What is the best part about working with East End clients?
JF: I love that Hamptons clients will go to any length to create a gorgeous party setting. On several occasions, I have purchased big white Crate + Barrel cozy couches just for a party, and then we donate them to charity the next day.
KDH: KDH loves to entertain at home. Which items should I invest in for my upcoming summer soirees?
JF: Definitely spring for a dozen French Louis 16th Kartell Lucite Ghost chairs, each $137, www.lumens.com. They are stackable for easy storage, and look equally chic poolside, or at the dinner table. Also, inexpensive cylindrical glass vases from Bed Bath and Beyond. You can add pillar candles and use them as hurricane lanterns, or fill them up with bunches of fresh flowers from the farm stand.
KDH: Do you have a favorite restaurant in terms of design?
JF: I love the layout and colors of the Surf Lodge in Montauk. They totally have the beachy chic vibe done so well, and on top of that~ I love going there to hear Nancy Atlas play some great music at sunset.
