NEW KidHampton Party Diary: How-To Plan the Coolest Kids Decoupage Party!

SHARE

My godson Brady shows off his decoupage masterpieces!

My sister Kim is a Supermom, as well as a KDHamptons contributing editor! She seamlessly puts together the most fun activities, parties, and play dates for my 4-year old nephew, Brady. After checking out photos of her recent Decoupage Party she hosted for Brady and his friends at their home in Abu Dhabi, I asked her to share her how-to-tips with KDHamptons readers who might want to try this at home in this fun KidHampton Party Diary:

PARTY TIME!!! Brady is always a dynamic host at his parties.

Kim shares, “Instead of your average play date [I actually hate that word], I decided to throw a last-minute garden party for my son and a few of his friends. We love decoupage, so we chose that as our theme.  It’s a fun and easy party to put together and enjoyable for kids and moms.”

Sis lives in Abu Dhabi, so a giant stuffed camel serves as a welcoming host.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO GET STARTED:

*Cardboard boxes in fun shapes such as moon, stars, mini birdhouses, and hearts
*Decoupage glue such as Modge Podge
*Decoupage Finish/sealer
*Colorful or decorative paper ripped into small pieces
*Small baskets for the paper
*Plastic cups for the glue
*Medium-sized paint brushes
*Warm hand towels for the sticky glue
*Rubber or plastic desk blotters to protect your table

*All of the above craft items can be found at most art supply stores.

Birdhouses, stars, dragons are always popular shapes with the kids.

To begin, choose your shape and start applying the glue by brush in small sections. Place the paper pieces next to one another, and be sure to overlap for best results.  Then reapply glue on top of paper.  Be sure to put enough glue to fold edges over and under. Repeat, working your way around the piece, leaving the bottom for last.  A handy tip is picking up each piece of paper with your paint brush, to keep your hands glue-free.

Choose colorful, fun patterns.

Place all the supplies in separate, easy to reach baskets.

PARTY TIP: Play some fun music to keep the kids engaged.

PARTY TIP: Be sure to have healthy, bite-size snacks on the table for the starving artists!

A happy hippy dinosaur.

**Once your masterpiece is dry, apply the finishing glue, et voila!  No excuse for another boring play date!

THUMBS UP!! Another fun party with my buddies!
