KDH Photo Diary: Sunset, Seafood & Salsa Dancing at The Beach Hut!

The Beach Hut at Meschutt Beach is such a fun place to bring a group of fun friends on a warm summer night. This totally casual beach shack serves up fresh seafood, burgers & fries, linguini with clams, corn on the cob, and a menu of fun fruity drinks that feel like vacation in a glass! KDH likes to go on a week night for live music preferably, because it doesn’t get quite as crowded. The Beach Hut has a calendar full of events this summer, from acoustic guitarists to reggae nights…this place is a secret to most Hamptonites who never visit the Shinnecock/Hampton Bays area!

Doc & I have a pretty beach cottage on the Peconic Bay which is just up the sand from the Hut, so we like to invite friends to come by for a few sunset cocktails and swimming before walking over for dinner and a little dancing under the stars!

A Latin salsa band performed over the weekend, so it was perfect timing to bring my friend Rita Schrager to the Beach Hut for the first time. Rita is Cuban, and also happens to be a former dancer for the New York City Ballet. Visiting her in Southampton for the weekend was pal Albert Evans, who also danced with Rita [& whom she affectionately calls Chocolate]. Albert is now an instructor for the legendary school, focusing on the Nutcracker production. How much fun is it to bring two professional ballerinas to a Latin dance party on the beach?

Rounding out our group was our friend Andrew Buffalino, executive chef of LT Burger in Sag Harbor, and Southampton glamour girl Caroline Fox. Check out our KDHamptons Diary of the super fun night:

The view of the bay from our cottage. We love to kayak here, swim, and this summer my husband has gone crazy for paddle boarding…

Chic Caroline arrives with her “beach bag” [above]. Notice my pretty gardens? I am totally obsessed with planting all my hibiscus, climbing wisteria, roses, jade, succulents, gardenias and dahlias!

Rita heads down the steps to the private beach [below] where we clinked glasses of Rosé, swam, and KDH cruised out for a quick paddle on my kayak…..later we all walked down to the Beach Hut!

When your lucky enough to have a pal who is an executive chef~ you let him do all the ordering! You always end up trying more fun things…Andrew ordered some some spicy peel-n-eat shrimp with peppers, corn on the cob, linguini with clams, calamari and more!

All eyes were on Rita and Albert as they danced below! She shares, “I loved the Beach Hut because for starters, it was outside and in front of the water….and I like how casual it is. That fact that it was a Latin band made it all the better for me!!! I went there with Chocolate, my best friend Kelli, and Andrew Buffalino and we all had a BLAST!!!! PS….the spicy shrimp are AMAZING!!! I’ll def go back next Wednesday for more Latin dancing, sunset, drinking and….”

As we walked back to the cottage we were treated to an unforgettable sunset!
