KDH Thanksgiving Day Diary: First Stop~ The North Fork For A Briermere Farm Pie Pick Up & Visit With Clydesdale Horses!
KDH took a gorgeous ride to the North Fork Thanksgiving morning with our pals Rita Schrager and Executive Chef of LT Burger Andrew Buffalino. In the off-season it only takes about a half hour to make the drive from Southampton and there are few cars on the road to take your eyes off the gorgeous farms and views as you cruise along. We stopped by a Clydesdale farm to pet the horses and then headed over to Briermere Farms in Riverhead where our mouths watered as we picked out pies to bring home for Thanksgiving dinner!
Everyone has a favorite flavor of pie that we would ask mom to bake over the holidays, but even Martha Stewart would have a tough time in a bake-off with Briermere Farms. At a glance Briermere appears to be a farm stand filled with fruits, produce, tomatoes, sweet plums and snap peas, but it’s the sweet little indoor bakery that brims with freshly baked cakes, cookies and warm breads. Check out the incredible pie list below featuring classic fillings like Apple, Cherry and Blueberry~ all made with fruits from their own farm, as well as creative concoctions like Blackberry Apple, Rasberry Peach, and Peach Cherry.
Briermere is particularly well known for its fruit cream pies with buttery crusts. On the weekends, specials like Lemon Meringue, Coconut Cream and Chocolate Cream rarely last until closing time!
All of the pies, bread, muffins, cookies, cakes, jam, and jelly are made on the farm from scratch! There are no pre-prepared ingredients or fillings bought for use and most of the fresh fruit used in their bakery is grown on the Briermere farm:
