KDH stopped by the Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art on Jobs Lane in Southampton to check out the fantastic current show that owner Tripoli Patterson curated. Check out the video diary above where Trip takes KDHamptons readers on a personal walk through the works in the show which include several paintings from East End artists. Below are some of our favorite pieces from the show….
Tripoli Patterson is an integral part of the DNA of the art scene on the East End. He curates shows that feature the work of both established and emerging artists. Considering his backstory it’s really no surprise. Wanna get to know a little bit more about him? You not alone! Here’s the scoop:
“Trip” was born at home in Sag Harbor in 1984 and began traveling at an early age. He attended kindergarten in Bavaria, Germany and started rollerblading, horseback riding, and skateboarding when he was 6-years old. After just a few months of riding, he was entered in the Hamptons Classic Horse Show representing the stable he rode at.
At 8-years old Trip started surfing. He won 2nd place in Menehunes at the East Coast Championships when he was 10-years old and continued competing for the New York State surf team for many years, maintaining his first place NYS title in Menehunes, Boys, and Jr. Men.
Trip moved to Bali, Indonesia, with his family, at age 13. He had the opportunity to go to G-Land, where he surfed big waves with older, hard core surfers and made many friends. They stayed for two years, returned to the Hamptons for two years, then moved to New Zealand for two more. In between, Trip spent time in Santa Cruz, California and theNorth Shore of Oahu, where he has often spent time surfing since.
Since 2005, Trip has augmented his love of surfing with his love of fine art by organizing, producing, and curating art shows for the public. In 2009, Trip opened the Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art on Job’s Lane in Southampton, New York. He has continued to curate exhibitions there, as well as being called upon to curate private shows in New York City and, most recently, a benefit and silent auction for Planned Parenthood at the Bridgehampton Surf Club, which event raised over $200,000.
Trip is loved by all who know him~ so go say hi and check out his show!
