NEW KDHamptons Beauty Diary: Dr. Elliot Weiss Shares His Top Spring Skincare Tips
KDHamptons checks in with Southampton’s Cosmetic guru Dr. Elliot Weiss for some springtime beauty tips to take your from look from drab to fab. Dr. Weiss, a Harvard and Johns Hopkins trained Board Certified Dermatologist, staffs the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York’s Southampton office. His mastery of laser surgery and artful use of injectables has already created quite a long list of devoted East End beauties clamoring to get an appointment. Ready for a mini makeover? Dr. Weiss shares some easy options in this NEW KDHamptons Beauty Diary below:
KDHamptons: What is the most common skin care concern for Hamptonites, and how do you treat it at your Laser & Skin Surgery Center?
Dr. Weiss: Because people spend so much time outside in our beach community, therefore, I see a great deal of sun-related skin problems. One of my most popular cosmetic treatments for sun-damaged skin is a combination of the Fraxel DUAL Laser and Q-Switched Ruby Laser. It gives you a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance while also evening out skin pigmentation.
KDHamptons: What is the biggest mistake Hamptonites can make when it comes to injectibles and laser treatments?
Dr. Weiss: Getting Botox or laser must be taken seriously. I think it is very risky to receive Botox, filler injections or laser treatments from a non-physician. I have also been happy to see a “less is more” trend happening in the Hamptons with patients requesting a more natural, youthful appearance.”
KDHamptons: Which specific professional treatments should we focus on right now?
Dr. Weiss: The spring months are actually a great time to prep your beauty your face and body for the summer season. Typically, our social calendars are a little more open, and the skin has recovered from harsh winter temps making it ideal for laser treatments. Stubborn red vessels or sunspots can safely be removed with laser treatments, and dull damaged skin can be rejuvenated with laser resurfacing. It’s also a perfect time to treat that unwanted hair or tattoo so you can kick off summer 2015 looking your very best. And, of course, don’t forget a little Botox or dermal filler to smooth those lines and give your face a natural youthful look.
KDHamptons: Gorgeous skin is always in. What can we do on a daily basis to put our best face forward?
Dr. Weiss: Our skin is our body’s first line of defense against the elements, so during the summer months it’s essential to moisturize and protect skin. Moisturizing the face and body after showering helps maintain the proper moisture balance and supports healthy looking skin. Some cosmetic products may not be tolerated as well during the summer months, so decrease usage at the first sign of irritation. Don’t forget lip protection to prevent chapped, red lips. UV rays are present throughout the year, so sun protection is key even during the off-season months. Wearing an everyday moisturizer with a good SPF is the easiest way to ensure that you are protecting your skin at all times. The daily moisturizer with SPF that I prefer and that we carry in my office is ELTA MD UV Clear.
KDHamptons: What can we do to achieve a yummy tummy?
Dr. Weiss: Most people put on a few pounds over the winter months and are eager to get back in shape for swimsuit season. In addition to good old-fashion diet and exercise, there is a great weapon to fight against unwanted fat. Coolsculpting by Zeltiq is a new, cutting-edge technology that effectively targets stubborn fat on the abdomen, flanks, love handles and thighs. This totally non-invasive procedure consistently reduces fat deposits while you sit and relax in the office. During the hour long treatment, the device freezes the fat cells without harming the skin, and the result is a gradual reduction in the fat layer over a 2-4 month period.
KDHamptons: You and your wife Lauren [above] are longtime Hamptonites, how would you describe your perfect day on the East End?
Dr. Weiss: My wife Lauren and I like to take our daughters Lillie and Georgia to Sag General Store for a homemade muffins, and then we head down to Gibson Beach. Afterwards, I like to do a little road biking, and in the evening I love to stay home and cook a great meal for my wife and little girls.
