Shelley Suh is described by friends as a smart, caring and fashionable mommy. She’s also an entrepreneur who recently launched a new clothing line, Loyal Hana. Loyal Hana was created to give back to the nursing moms who give so much to the little ones in their lives. Shelley created a collection of stylish, comfortable garments that enable moms to nurse discreetly, no matter where they are. Having worked in the fashion industry for over 15 years, Shelley understands how the right clothes have the power to make women feel confident, capable and beautiful.  Her passion project finally became reality in 2014, and Loyal Hana was launched this month.

“With hidden zipper openings, soft, machine-friendly fabrics and contemporary silhouettes, every piece of our nursing wear collection was designed with baby, and mom in mind. Transitioning from pregnancy to motherhood is hard. Loyal Hana was created to help make it a little easier,” shares Shelley.

KDHamptons: Why the name Loyal Hana? What does it mean to you?

Shelley Suh: Loyal (loy·al), adjective. Giving firm and constant support to a person. Hana (ha·na), pronoun. Korean, meaning “one.”  Loyal Hana is dedicated to The Loyal Ones. It’s my way of giving back to the new moms who give so much. Whether they decide to stay at home or transition back into the workforce, this capsule collection of simple, stylish nursing wear was designed to ease a moms transition from pregnancy to motherhood.

KDHamptons:  What inspired you to create Loyal Hana?

Shelley: After having my children I realized the unmet need for simple, stylish, clothing for pregnancy, and especially nursing wear.  This is truly my passion project.  More than just a collection of nursing garments, Loyal Hana is a reliable friend during a crucial time when the pressure is on to provide it all, a helping hand when circumstances make it difficult to be discreet, a universal “thank you” and a way for new moms to feel confident and beautiful every day.

KDHamptons: Do you have a fashion background?

Shelley: I have worked in fashion for over 15 years, but it wasn’t until the birth of my own children that I realized the need for nursing-friendly designs. I have worked and ran other contemporary lines but this is my first line that I have designed.

KDHamptons: What is the price range for the line?

Shelley: The line ranges from $55 to $105.  I aim to price each piece even lower to make the line more affordable.  I want to offer to help all moms in this hard transitional phase.  Pregnancy to postpartum is a long hard road for many.

KDHamptons: What fabrics are used, how do moms wash them?

Shelley: I choose to use rayon, cotton and poly blends as they are easy to wash and care for. All shirts are recommended to wash in cold water and hang dry.  The great thing about poly blends is they dry fast and are easy to wash milk stains away.

KDHamptons: Was the line created for pregnant as well as nursing moms?

Shelley: The shirts can be worn through pregnancy and the most beneficial thing is the hidden zipper to help with nursing discretely after the baby is born.
