Are you a Hamptons yogi? Well if you are, KDHamptons has uncovered the most beautiful venue for you to strike a pose on the east end. Wolffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack offers daily yoga classes. Some of the Hamptons best-loved certified instructors lead classes every day throughout summer, except Tuesday and Friday. Park at the main winery, and stroll along the vines to Wolffer’s scenic gazebo or stately, shady tree, where classes take place. [In case of inclement weather, classes move to Wölffer Estate Stables, overlooking the indoor ring.] Bring your yoga mat and water, and get ready to get zen!

KDH and my stepdaughter Lily are loving the classes at Yoga in the Vines

Event Assistant & Yoga in the Vines Coordinator Erica Velasquez shares, “My passion for the outdoors, yoga and our community inspired me to start Yoga in the Vines. I am so thankful to work at Wölffer Estate Vineyard and to have the support and encouragement from Joey & Max, and Marc Wolffer and the Wölffer Team to build this program. Each class, teacher and student brings new and exciting energy to the winery and I look forward to the program’s growth. It has been my pleasure to coordinate the program and a dream of mine to share this experience. Yoga in the Vines allows all to connect with outdoor beauty, breathe in fresh clean air, and properly practice with the guidance of certified teachers.”

KDH chats with our favorite Wolffer yoga instructor Lois Nesbitt, below, in this NEW KDHamptons Fitness Diary. Lois has been sharing yoga with students in public classes and workshops in New York City and the Hamptons for more than a decade. Nationally recognized for both her advanced practice and the depth of her teaching, Lois teaches classes that weave the flow of vinyasa-style yoga into the exquisite alignment and inspirational message of Anusara yoga for an invigorating and uplifting experience.

Before devoting herself to yoga, Lois was a professional writer and editor and an internationally exhibited artist.  She received a B.A., magna cum laude from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Princeton University, where she taught literature and writing.

KDHamptons: How did you become involved in the Wolffer Yoga program? Please describe your weekend class?

Lois Nesbitt: Erica Velasquez, the event planner for Wolffer Vineyards, had been hosting wedding yoga classes for weekend weddings at the vineyards. Last fall, she entered my yoga teacher training at KamaDeva Yoga in East Hampton, and shared her vision for creating a full-on yoga program. Of course, I was  more than happy to help out!

KDHamptons: What do you love most about teaching outside at Wolffer?

Lois: Nature, nature, nature! It’s why I spend as much of my life/time out here as I can. I love the ocean, the open skies, the woods, and the fields of living growing plants like the vines all around us when we practice at Wolffer.

KDHamptons: How can nature advance our yoga practice?

Lois: When we practice in natural settings [and not closed-in box studios], we get more in touch with our bodies, our breaths, our human nature, our hearts.

KDHamptons: How long have you been living/ teaching in the Hamptons? How would you describe the East End yoga scene?

Lois: I’ve been teaching out here for 20 years; was one of the first teachers at Mandala in Amagansett, Yoga Zone in East Hampton, and Yoga Shanti in Sag Harbor. Of course, the studios and students have multiplied. As everywhere, there’s a mix of very experienced teachers and newbies every season, so it’s best to shop around.

KDHamptons: You are also an internationally exhibited artist, are you currently working on a new project? Where can we see your works?

Lois: Yes, it’s been a long, full life! I am currently working on projects for The Nature Conservancy and hope to be doing the same for the Hamptons International Film Festival. Will be getting a website up soon!

KDHamptons: Where can readers go to learn more about you, and connect with you on social media?

Lois: My professional facebook page is LoisNesbittYoga, and I’m also on Twitter and Instagram. My own website is www.blueskyyoga.com. Email lois@blueskyyoga.com
