Master builder, Michael Davis, whom many credit for putting Sagaponack on the map, pushes the envelope in his favorite town with non-waterfront record-breaking sales. The Sagaponack estate above recently sold for $19.25 million.

Michael Davis, founder and CEO of Michael Davis Design and Construction, is known for his innovative design, function, extreme attention to detail and, most importantly, meeting deadlines. “Our houses have soul,” Davis remarked, “as each residence showcases the homeowners’ interests and customized amenities.” KDH shares Michael’s scoop on why this was such a dream property:

KDHamptons: Why did you feel this is such a special property?

Michael Davis: The property is surrounded by agricultural reserves on 3 sides totaling over 80 acres. I was able to site the house so that it has uninterrupted Ocean views from both the 1st and 2nd floor rooms

KDH: Are you able to let us know who bought the property?

MD: I would love to, but I have a confidentiality agreement!

KDH: Why is Sagaponack your favorite place to build?

MD: Nowhere else in The Hamptons do farm fields meet the Ocean, which reminds me of my home country, England. Sagaponack Village has a unique rural feel with incredible light and open skies, lower density zoning as compared to the neighboring hamlets and towns. It also has the most ocean frontage and beach per capita. Lastly, the relatively low property taxes are a bonus!

Perspective as one enters the property

KDH: Can you please share some of the details about the home with KDH readers?
MD: The main house is 6950 sq. ft plus an additional 3300 sq. ft. finished lower level which includes a gym w/both steam & sauna rooms, recreation/billiards room w/fireplace &  wine room.  There are 8+ bedrooms and bathrooms, detailed ceilings throughout the home, wood paneling, heated salt water pool w/spa, tennis court w/basketball goal setter & home automation.  In addition there is a tennis/pool recreation pavilion.

KDH: What are some of the bells and whistles you built in?

MD: A restored guest cottage from the 1840’s that has the original wood flooring and banister. The main house has a 3-D home theatre w/surround sound.

KDH: We heard the existing home was a tear-down, true?

MD: Yes.  Previously there was an old and derelict farm which was not maintained for many years.   The farm consisted of a few buildings that were not worth salvaging except the cottage from the 1840’s. It took 1 year  to build from the time that the foundation was set.
