Sun Barth

Sag Harbor summer resident Thierry de Badereau opened SunBarth on Jobs Lane in Southampton in 2011, and recently opened a new location just up the road at 14 Jobs Lane this summer.  The jetsetting tastemaker has owned Toms Beach Hotel and La Plage Restaurant in St Barts, and opened his first SunBarth boutique on the island of Saint Barthelemy in 2009.  Thierry shares his brand in this NEW KDHamptons Lifestyle Diary, below:

KDHamptons: How would you describe the SunBarth brand?

Thierry de Badereau:  SunBarth is a luxury beachwear retail store for men that want to look as good on the beach as they do in the city.  It features brands like SunDek, Orlebar Brown, and Free In St Barth.  SunBarth also carries eyewear from brands like Italia Independent, jewelry from Miansai, and limited edition blackout watches from Rolex.  My business partner Alexandre Daniel and I opened the original SunBarth store in Southampton and we are so excited about the beautiful new store at 14 Jobs Lane.

KDHamptons: Tell us about your Saint Barth store and hotel.  Do you carry the same items in the Southampton store?

Thierry de Badereau: Tom Beach is a boutique hotel [below] with 12 rooms located on St Jean Beach.  It’s restaurant, La Plage, is a quite a scene, located right on the beach.  The St Barth store is very similar to our location in Southampton with the same vibe and design, and fun atmosphere!  We carry most of the same brands but we do have a difference in length and sizing to fulfill the needs of the American market.

KDHamptons: What do you love most about the Hamptons?

Thierry de Badereau: It’s the Cote d’Azur of the United States.  The restaurants and beaches are chic, and each hamlet has its own personality.  I enjoy meeting with my customers in the store, I’ve met some really great people!

KDHamptons: Please describe your perfect day here?

Thierry de Badereau: I always begin my day with a smoothie made with local organic fruits bought at Serene Green in Sag Harbor, lunch at Silvers in Southampton (they have the best BLT!), Dinner at Sunset Beach on Shelter Island, BBQ at home with friends, or go wild in Montauk!
