NEW KDHamptons Travel Diary: Julie Wolfe's Mountaintop Engagement in Ogden, Utah! Congratulations!!
More fantastic travel diaries keep flying in from KDHamptons readers who are escaping the bleak winter season of the Hamptons and jetting off on fantastic adventures. This week, I heard from my gorgeous Southampton friend Julie Wolfe [above], who just returned from the snowy slopes of Ogden, Utah with her boys, and boyfriend Ed…..who became her FIANCE by the end of the trip~ how exciting! Here all the details in Julie’s KDHamptons Travel Diary and below…
Julie shares: We stay at our condo, Wolf Lodge, when we go to Utah because it is close to the mountain. We generally snowboard/ski at Powder Mountain most of the time because the conditions are always great. On this trip we had 14 inches of fresh powder overnight. It was incredible!
Eddie and my older son Charlie went to Snowbasin one day which is fifteen minutes away and mostly groomed and a much more upscale resort. Snowbasin has two great restaurants with a grand foyer, chandeliers and marble bathrooms etc. Powder Mountain is much more low key with the “Powder Keg’ for lunch that has burgers, wings, and a kale salad for the veggie eater- upstairs dining you can now find gourmet pizzas- yumm.
We took the snow cat [below] up one day to the top where it is difficult to access unless you hike-in search of uncharted territory “fresh tracks”. The nickname for Powder Mountain is “PowMow!”
Powder Mountain has been bought by Summit Group from Los Angeles and they have made some changes but have kept the “funky-ness” of the place which we love! Our favorite restaurant is in Ogden- Japanese called Tona where we celebrated my birthday- amazing raw oysters with fish egg and a wasabi vinaigrette on top.
After skiing there are natural hot springs on the way to Ogden [below] or if you don’t mind the drive to Honeyville there’s the Crystal hot springs there about a 45 minute drive from Eden. Charlie and Cole loved the FastKart indoor race track where we all raced our go karts for a fun adrenalin rush.
In Ogden, there’s a huge movie theater and across the street is Fat Cats [above] where there is fun for everyone. Video arcade, rock climbing, flow rider, indoor sky-diving etc. Outdoor fun includes snowmobiling to see the elk, horseback riding and of course skiing and snowboarding.
This ski trip was extra special because Ed proposed to me [below] and we are all really happy! [CONGRATULATIONS JULIE!!]
There are plenty of hotels in Ogden which is a 15 minute ride to Powder Mountain or Snowbasin. Park City is also about 60 minutes away if you wanted a change of pace- more restaurants and night life there.
