NEW KDHamptons Travel Diary: Madge Allison Takes Palm Beach
KDHamptons loves keeping up with the antics of Madge Allison [above, right] aka @blondeintheboro, a self-described “single and out to mingle 25-year-old blonde; hustling in Manhattan and chilling in Montauk.” During the week, Madge works for a men’s fashion label and on her blog BlondeintheBoro, but on the weekends you’ll find her cruising The End, and burning calories on the dancefloor at any given opportunity. This week, Madge takes KDHamptons readers to Palm Beach in her new travel diary, below.
Madge asks: What has a population of 10K year-round residents, experiences high season during our off season, & has palm trees all over? The Sunshine State’s very own Palm Beach Island of course!
Separated from the mainland by the Intracoastal Waterway, this sliver of paradise is a must do on your winter travel agenda. Whether you’re looking to brush up on your golf & tennis game or take it easy poolside with your favorite(s), PBI has plenty to keep you busy and pleasantly entertained for a long weekend getaway. So take that Friday off, disconnect, and start mustering together your accumulating airline points. Here’s my hit list so that you don’t have to waste any time. I hear Mr. Trump plans to make Palm Beach his official presidential retreat destination so I’d advise you get a move on with booking before the secret service become a native species to the island. Get to packin’ already…
THE BREAKERS HOTEL: The epitome of Palm Beach itself. Or, as my Uber driver so eloquently put it – “Holy s*** this place is magnificent”. If you can manage to make this world renowned resort your accommodation of choice while in town then by all means do so. If you’re staying elsewhere – make sure to somehow work it into your itinerary as it’d be a PBI sin not to. In the early 1900’s, four bucks would score you a room. Well today you’ll be lucky if you can even find a water at the Breakers for that rate, but trust me it’s worth the splurge and then some.
The picturesque grounds are Instagram worthy no doubt – the many halls & corridors beg for a tour. Head poolside to explore their three pools of grandeur; each boasting its own unique sunbathing locale & views of the pristine beach below. Make sure to pack a cover up as you’ll need to experience the “all you can eat” Breaker’s Brunch without being bikini shy. It’s left up to you to pair their prized Rose Petal Jam with a baked good of choice so go ahead and attend that Orangetheory fitness class you were debating on skipping. If you forget to pack your monogrammed pieces no biggie; the in-house bar (dubbed “HMF” after the resort founder) has us all initialed out.
As preppy as this fortress may be do not mistake it for being stuffy as their staff are some of the friendliest around. Find yourself with a few spare minutes while waiting in the lobby? Stop by the front desk to say hi to Stephen Koetter or contact concierge Timothy Thornton and you’ll be assured the Breakers is merely your new home away from home.
RAIDERS ROW: Have your eyes glued on the 2017 Bugatti out front and finding yourself salivating to taste more of the ultra-luxe? Cruise over to “Raiders Row” to admire PBI’s most exclusive & opulent real estate. A row of mansions home to the likes of Howard Stern, Rod Stewart & Rush Limbaugh – this ain’t your average hood. Just remember while cruisin these compounds to remain in the vehicle. Typically, the taller the hedges the bigger the house, so be mindful of thy neighbor’s privacy or you could be kicked to the 24 karat curb. Stern’s not somebody I’d wanna piss off…

Done stalking cribs & still craving the luxe life? Next stop: Worth Avenue. Similar to Raiders Row, this infamous strip houses some of the most sought after real estate..in the retail world. A-List fashion labels have no limit on these streets, but lucky for you your credit card does. Shop at your own risk.
PEANUT ISLAND: Back during JFK’s reign, this peanut-sized island off the shores of PBI housed Kennedy’s bomb shelter and little else. Today, the appropriately named “Peanut Island” still remains uninhabited but has become a booze cruise sensation. Dial up Captain Gary of the “Keylypso” and book a day out on the water via catamaran. Gary along with his first mate Austin are ready to roll with the tide no matter what your crew’s throwin’ at them. Snorkeling, diving, sunbathing, bottle popping – you name it & these gentlemen will make it happen. Might I add they also make excellent photographers; trained by yours truly.
ECHO: You’re bound to work up an appetite after a day out on the water – this is where Asian fusion restaurant Echo comes in. They so elegantly nail the Far East aesthetic as well as cuisine in this chic spot minutes from the Breakers. Managing to please 10 blondes at once is a daunting task, but clearly possible. Keep the sake, sashimi, & soufflés rollin to the table and you’ll see for yourself.
CAMELOT: PBI shuts down shortly after the sun does believe it or not so plan accordingly and cross over to West Palm Beach to keep the night alive. Members only joint, Camelot, is the go to – located in the downtown late night sector known as Clematis. Don’t let the pirate theme fool ya – this door runs a tight shift for the guys rollin thru who aren’t members. Somehow Ja Rule finagled his way in, but that’s none of my business. Palm Beach was kind to this blonde, as I’m sure it will be for you as well.
Until next time xx,
Blonde in the Boro
