Zoe Hoare and fiance Chris Mead sail away to Mykonos

More fantastic travel diaries keep flying in from KDHamptons readers who are escaping the cold winter temps of the Hamptons and jetting off for some fun in the sun! This week I heard from my ubër chic interior design friend Zoe Hoare [above], a Sagaponack resident, who just returned from breathtaking Bali with her fiancé, Chris Mead, who owns English Country Antiques here on the East End. Enjoy her KDHamptons Travel Diary from Mykonos below…

Zoe shares: The Greek island of Mykonos has been on our “to do” list since Chris and I met 4 years ago in London. Being only a three hour flight from the UK, Mykonos has  been a favorite playground of the British since 1930’s. On our most recent buying trip for English Country Antiques to England, Chris and I decided a side trip to an exotic island might just make winter in the Hamptons seem a little bit further away….

Our travel agent had recently recommended a small boutique hotel called San Giorgio that had been a POP up hotel only the year before, and was receiving rave reviews in the press. It looked ideal, white interiors (of course) with simple decoration, bohemian luxury they called it,  decorated with individual pieces adding  personal touches to each room.

Perched on top of a rocky outlook, the San Giorgio was the perfect place to have a romantic holiday without missing out on the nightlife and excitement Mykonos is famous for….a short drive or bus ride from the main town of Mykonos, we spent many wonderful evenings at the street side restaurants, people watching heaven!

Mykonos is a small island and easy to navigate. Hire a fiat 500 and you can take yourself to any of the divine beaches, many of which are equipped with beds, bars and umbrellas, you want for nothing.

Probably the most special of places which was once a well kept secret, is Kiki’s. A tiny restaurant on the hill side over looking a small but perfectly turquoise bay…no reservations are taken, although free wine flows for those who have to wait for their table. if you only do one thing, Kiki’s is it. After your lunch of classic greek salads and BBQ’d fresh fish, take the short stroll to the beach, Mykonos doesn’t get much better than this.
