'Overcome Obstacles' At The Shelter Island 10k Run and 5k Walk With After Party at SALT Restaurant!

Are you willing to run for a cause this weekend? ALL ABOARD the Shelter Island ferry for the annual 10k Run, 10k Wheelchair race, or 5k Walk this Saturday, June 15th at 5:30pm, with an after party at SALT! The theme of this year will be “Overcoming Obstacles” to honor the victims of the Boston bombings, as well as everyone experiencing adversity.  Olympic Gold Medalist Joan Benoit-Samuelson, “Boston” legend Bill Rodgers, and Dick Beardsley will be honored at the event.

 

 

Catch a ride on the Shelter Island Ferry

 

 

This annual event unites people from all over the globe, including Kenya and Ukraine, and includes people of all ages from 11 to 78! The run showcases the beauty of Shelter Island, brings together a spirited community, and benefits local charities such as East End Hospice, Timothy Hill Children’s Ranch, and the Shelter Island Run Community Fund.  There will also be runners from the charity Reach Within to support Children of Grenada.

Wanna toast the winners? The award ceremony after party will be at one of Shelter Island’s hottest restaurants, SALT Waterfront Bar and Grill at the Island Boatyard, who will be donating a portion of the proceeds to charity– Even more of an excuse to party! Don’t stress if you finish without a medal because you will still be rewarded with a BBQ buffet and drinks!

 

 

 

 

Hamptonites can dock their boats at SALT and jump onto land for drinks, food, and music!

 

 

From Thursday to Sunday you can also enjoy local talents playing live music all day at SALT

In addition to the grill, you can’t miss their famous Shipwreck Bar [below], which is a renovated boat from 1928, boasting amazing cocktails such as Shelter Island punch with dark, light and coconut rum, real Dark & Stormy’s with Goslings dark rum and Barrett’s ginger beer, or try a Jalapeño margarita if you want a little kick! There will also be a mobile pouring station by the Port Jefferson Brewery Van.  If you’re not a beer lover, SALT has the first wine tasting room in Shelter Island featuring a wide selection of premium estate-grown wines from Jamesport Vineyards.
