REVOLVE HAIR SOUTHAMPTON CELEBRATES 14 YEARS WITH MANHATTAN EXPANSION
What inspired you to start the salon 14 years ago? Was this always your dream?
Alicia M. Cook: I really wanted to create a space that nurtured creativity and individuality, while embodying the things that are important to me, caring for those around me, my community and the environment. I work a lot and it’s difficult to find time for every passion, so infusing the things I care about and am inspired by in my work and business, is how I feel purposeful beyond just being behind the chair.
When you started Revolve Hair over a decade ago, did you ever imagine it being as successful as it is? And did you imagine the salon expanding into multiple locations?
Alicia M. Cook: The way I think about it, is that things have evolved so much over the years. I distinctly remember saying out loud that if all I have accomplished 20 years from now is that I opened a salon, I won’t be fulfilled. So I’ve always felt this need to do more, learn more and explore the potentials of taking certain risks and bringing people together. The longer you live and the longer you do something, to find true meaning in it, it always boils down to: what matters most in life? Generally, it’s the simple things– love, belonging, connection and as a creative, I think I speak for most artists that there is a desire to surround yourself with meaning. Expanding Revolve and building the team was something that evolved from wanting to reach more people and create more of an impact. I’m humbled to see how our team has come together. These are individuals who really care about what they do, they’re excited to create, work together and really support one another.
How do the Revolve Hair salon stylists differ from other Hampton and NYC salon experts?
Alicia M. Cook: They’re true artists. These are some of the most talented and creative people I’ve ever met. They’re thoughtful, they’re curious, they love learning and growing. They challenge themselves and we have this beautiful openness that I’ve never seen in a salon. That’s my dream come true.
Will the NYC salon have the same services as the Hamptons salon? What can guests expect to see at the West Village salon?
Alicia M. Cook: We’re always thinking, how can we make this more special, more elevated, how can we ‘wow’ our clients– we’re not just delivering on skills, we’re providing an entire experience.
What do you picture for Revolve Hair in the next 14 years?
Alicia M. Cook: There are so many possibilities. I love visualizing the future. I get really excited to think about what can exist that’s not there now, what can we make possible? That’s my little fire and fuel, but for now I can say I’m excited to see what we create together in the West Village.
For any young, aspiring, female entrepreneur reading this, what is your advice to them?
Alicia M. Cook: Always listen to your gut, learn to make that voice strong. Perfection doesn’t exist, doing something imperfectly is better than not doing it at all. Be in love with the process.
As a hair expert, do you have any quick hair tips for our KDHamptons readers?
Alicia M. Cook: You don’t have to try every trend out there! Beauty is unique and finding out what works for you and what feels the best for you is your power, it’s your individuality.
What hair color or hairstyle trends have you seen so far in 2024 and what are your favorites?
Alicia M. Cook: I love seeing these really lived-in effortless looks, with natural texture and tones, whatever your expression is, I love to see it.
