The Pink Jalk Project Tells Breast Cancer To Take A Seat! Style Icons Design Dynamic Chairs To Raise Awareness To Help Find A Cure...
During October 2012, SUITE New York with Swarovski and Lange Production will present the third installment of The Pink Project. Following two wildly successful years, 2012’s The Pink Jalk Project to benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation promises even more excitement, creativity and monies raised. The Pink Jalk Project [Twitter /#PinkProject] features work by twenty internationally recognized design icons to benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
SUITE New York launched The Pink Project in hopes of harnessing the wealth of talent found in the design world into a philanthropic enterprise to raise awareness for BCRF and their mission to achieve both prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime.
For the first time, The Pink Project spotlights a chair designed by a woman! This year’s chair is the incredible GJ Chair designed by Grete Jalk. Twenty leading interior designers, architects and design icons have been asked to customize the iconic GJ Chair in personal homage to BCRF and their worldwide initiatives. Pictured here are our favorites!

Henrik Lange, CEO of Lange Production in Denmark, holds exclusive rights to the production of the GJ Chair. Lange worked with several Danish cultural institutions to bring the GJ Chair back in to production–The Danish Design School in Copenhagen, The Danish Museum of Art and Design and Trapholt in Kolding to name a few.
The Museum of Modern Art in New York purchased one of the fewer than 300 GJ Chairs put into production in 1963, where it remains a part of the permanent collection. Grete Jalk died in 2006, aged 86. Henrik Lange says: “Grete Jalk’s honesty and genuine interest in every aspect of quality has made her the conscience of Danish design.”
Swarovski selected three inspiring designers, Colin Cowie [below pink], David Rockwell and Kelly Wearstler, to design Pink Jalk Chairs for the brand. Last year, Swarosvki’s stunning crystal-adorned Swan Chairs for last year’s Pink Swan Project were designed by D.B. Kim of PYR and Holly Fulton. Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Executive Board, Swarovski Crystal Business, says, “Swarovski is proud to support The Pink Jalk Project in aid of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which makes a difference to women affected by breast cancer. I’m privileged to have known Evelyn Lauder, who was a true inspiration, and I’m delighted to contribute in some small way to support the cause that was so close to her heart.”
The one-of-kind Pink Jalk Chairs will be auctioned on Charitybuzz.com. The online auction will run October 1st – October 31st, internationally known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 80% of each sale will go directly to BCRF. On October 23, SUITE New York co-principals Kris Fuchs & Maria Sepulveda will host a memorable evening at their Park Avenue showroom to honor The Pink Jalk Project.
“With Mrs. Lauder’s recent passing, this year’s fundraiser is closer to our hearts than ever. Maria and I promised Mrs. Lauder we would devote ourselves to The Pink Project every year until a cure is found. I have every intention of standing by that promise. ” -Kris Fuchs
A very special thanks to Debby Hymowitz for photographing the Pink Jalk Project chairs.
