Wölffer Estate Vineyard Hosts Intimate Wine Dinner With Opus One on April 9th
On Sunday, April 9, 2017, at 5:30 pm Wölffer Estate Vineyard will host a rare and intimate wine dinner in partnership with Opus One Winery of California. The Opus One winery was founded as a joint venture between Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi’s son to create a single Bordeaux style blend based upon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. They created their first vintage in 1979, and only three years later, a single case of their wine sold for $24,000 at the first Napa Valley Wine Auction – the highest price ever paid for a California wine.
In 1982 Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild began label design. Baron Philippe announced his choice, “Opus,” a musical expression denoting the first masterwork of a composer. Two days later he proposed an additional word: “Opus One”. The 1979 and 1980 vintages were simultaneously unveiled in 1984 as Opus One’s first release. Opus One then became known as America’s first ultra-premium wine, establishing a category of wine priced by the bottle at $50 and above.
J. France Posener (Eastern Division Manager of Opus One) joins Roman Roth to bring you a night of fine wines and wine stories. You will taste the 2013 Opus One (their newest and hottest release), a 2007 library Opus One, and the Overture by Opus One. The evening starts with Wölffer Estate Summer in a Bottle White 2016 and will finish with the Descencia Botrytis Riesling/Chardonnay 2015 (Wine Advocate Score: 93; Wine Enthusiast Score: 94; and Wine Enthusiast’s “Top 100 Wines of 2016”). Tickets are $257.25 per person. Tax and gratuity is included. For tickets go HERE. Menu is as follows:
