Mary’s Marvelous Opens in East Hampton Over Labor Day Weekend!
Mary’s Marvelous, a grab-and-go shop with a local and seasonal focus, opened its second store with a preview party on Friday, August 31. Delicious hors d’oeuvres were served, including mini sandwiches and sample smoothies as well as bite sized baked goods.
Mary Schoenlein, owner and executive chef, has run Mary’s Marvelous in Amagansett since July 2002, and began to consider the idea of opening another location four years ago. In March of 2012, a venue in the village of East Hampton became available. “I believed this would be the best opportunity for me at this time to grow my business and be more readily available to a larger audience,” remarked Schoenlein.
The new space has a clean, white appearance, similar to that of the Amagansett location, but with a more modern feel. A two-minute walk from the East Hampton train station and a seven-minute walk from Main Street, Mary’s Marvelous will be a convenient place for a quick lunch or tasty treat. Walk into the right side of this building to pick up pre-packaged food to go or order from an array of menu options, while within the left-side doorway retail goods may be found.
Schoenlein brings her classic chef training along with her love of Asian and Latin inspired food to her menu, often focusing on vegetable and grain dishes. Popular items from the Amagansett location will still be available including breakfast options: Eggs Colombian Frittata, scrambled eggs with scallion and tomato in a whole wheat wrap and a side of salsa, and steel-cut oatmeal made with organics oats and a range of toppings from brown sugar to banana.
“Everything is made here. We roast our own meats and make sandwiches fresh daily,” she says. Sandwiches along with their mini counterparts will be offered and a local favorite – spice-rubbed chicken breast with avocado, bacon and chipotle mayonnaise on ciabatta – is sure to please. New to the East Hampton store will be a larger salad menu as well as smoothie menu with an original combination consisting of avocado, green tea, spinach and ginger, accurately named “The Hulk,” that tops the list!
Packaged “Sweet Things” selections will include: Russian tea cakes, chocolate shortbread, pistachio hazelnut biscotti as well as collections of spiced nuts and other treats. Gift boxes are also available for on-the-go housewarmings and celebratory presents.
Schoenlein comments, “Our aim is to provide our customers with our best service. We strive to offer the best local and all natural products at fair prices. All of our soups salads, prepared foods and baked goods are homemade from scratch the old fashioned way, the way we believe it ought to be!”
